Germany's June festivals include great summer festivals, music festivals and theatre festivals. Germany's June summer festivals include a wide variety of unique events like the Tuebingen Boat races, the Eltville Sekt and Beidemeier Festival and the ancient Lamboyfest in Hanau. There are fireworks displays like the Japanese Fireworks Night in Dusseldorf and the Garden displays and fireworks at the Rosen-und Licthernfest in Frankfurt's botanical gardens.
Germany in June appeals to music lovers of all genres. June's music festivals include the huge Rock am Ring and Rock am Park sponsored by MTV, Dresden finishes up their classical music festival but offers the great Bunte Republik Neutstadt festival with over 1,000 alternative performers, and Leipzig offers the Bach festival. You can visit Jazz Baltica in Schleswig-Holstein or go to the huge Fete de la Musique in Berlin.
Every city in Germany is beautiful in June, flowers are in bloom, sidewalk cafes are open, even the Germans in the northern cities are in good spirits. A little bit of sunshine can make a lot of difference, of course, you can expect a little rain, but just make sure you either pick up a cheap umbrella for a few euros and wear shoes that won't make you slip on rainy streets. My daughter and I have played slip n' slide through the streets of Hamburg and Cologne in June, so be prepared, simply layer your clothes a little and keep one of those little purse umbrellas with you. Don't let a little rain stop you, weather can change on a dime and, actually, some of my favorite days in Germany have been rainy summer days, a downpour followed by sunshine and rainbows. I spent two rainy June days touring the castles of the Rhine and it was incredibly romantic.
